Survey on the Combination Therapy of Collyrium

Abstract
According to the increase of kinds and trend to combination therapy of collyrium, it is needed to instruct patients how to use collyrium. 1,088 prescriptions, that were for outpatients of the department of ophthalmology from Aug. 1 through Aug. 31, 1987, were analyzed based on the following items : the kind of ophthalmic solution and ophthalmic ointment prescribed, combination pattern and frequency of applying 37 kinds of collyrium out of 1,088 ophthalmologic prescriptions were prescribed, those details were followings : 204 prescriptions(18.8£¥) were not include collyrium, 556 prescriptions (52.0£¥) included one kind of collyrium, 276 prescriptions (25.4£¥) included two kinds of collyfium, 34 prescriptions(3.1£¥) included 3 kinds of collyrium and 5 kinds of collyrium were maximum. The frequent combination prescriptions were 0.1£¥ fluorometholone£«0.3£¥ T-GM, 1£¥ T-AT£«CT, 1£¥ polyvinylpyrrolidone£«0.3£¥ hydroxy propylmethylcellulose, T-CTM£«0.3£¥ T-GM. 642 prescriptions(72.6£¥) were not written about number of applying. 4 and 6 times a day were frequent applying on prescription and maximum applying was 30 times a day. The results of our study show that it is desirable to educate doctors to write the frequency of instilling and to educate patients about the method of applying collyrium.
